How to build a Cabinet with an old window! Treasures and Trinkets Thursday! Link up!
Welcome to Treasures and Trinkets Thursday!
Link up something you love, a project or whatever you’ve been up to, so we can all admire your stuff!
I thought you guys might be interested in how these were made, there’s a little story behind them….
A while back I told you that my mom, had all these old windows and pieces of building supplies just laying around. She wanted some cabinets built out of the windows, but my dad and I just couldn’t get time to do it, so enter Gail, from - My Repurposed Life. (she’s such a great gal..and SO talented!)
I emailed her and asked her if she’d be willing to take on the project and she agreed.
SOOooo, my dad and brother took this whole truck load of goodies to her to start working!
Here’s some old sign materials from where my dad worked that they gave him…Gail called it bumble bee mdf.
Here’s a couple of the old windows my mom had….
and a WHOLE bunch of old bed spindles!
First Gail built a little base with legs out of the bed spindles to fit the size of the windows.……
Then she built a frame the size of the window and attached it to the little base.….
Then she added shelves, a piece of beadboard on the back and some crown molding…..
Then Gail cleaned up the windows….
She then painted the windows and cabinets out in a nice bright white!
Then Gail attached the two windows to the fronts to complete the cabinets. Notice that she added the shelves where the cross pieces are in the windows are so they would be hidden behind each piece. (such a smart cookie)
So here they are now, in my mom and dad’s attic space…aren’t they cute?! See the little cupcakes on the shelves??…those are the faux ones that I make in my shop HERE.
Mom has the “twins”, as Gail so lovingly calls them, decorated so cute in all white hobnail and antique wedding cake toppers.
Mom and dad installed the sweet little crystal knobs after they got the cabinets back. My dad, my son Lincoln, and I all drove out to pick up the cabinets from Gail’s house…she’s such a sweetie!
Hope you enjoyed seeing the transformation of a couple of old windows today. If you don’t know Gail, you really should head on over to her blog, My Repurposed Life, to see what she can do! She does miracles with stuff most people would throw away! OH and she’s also having a silhouette giveaway, so run, don’t walk over and enter it here!
Have a great day!~
