Mario and Luigi..more birthday party ideas! Treasures and Trinkets Linky Party!

It’s time for my weekly Treasures and Trinkets Linky Party! :o)  Just link up something you love, a treasure of yours, or a project you’ve been working on….anything goes!  If you know how, I’d love it if you’d link back to my page. Thanks!
Okay, now for one of my little birthday projects~ I thought I’d share how I made these birthday party hats for my son’s Mario and Luigi party.  I’ll show you the whole party in another post..boy oh boy, was it fun~!
DSCN4673

I actually found these brightly colored visors on Amazon.com from a company called Gravity Trading for $3.99 each. The company was wonderful to work with and I’d buy from them again! Very nice people!  I ordered 3 red and 3 green visors for my son’s party.
To get the M’s and L’s on the hats, I turned to my cricut expression.  I found a font that matched what I was looking for, then added a circle around it.  I cut it out using my cricut and this is what I got……

DSCN4672

If you don’t have a cricut, you could just buy some vinyl stick on letters, use iron on letters,  or even spray paint them on with a stencil. (you could even hand cut them….shouldn’t be too hard.)

I just added the vinyl cut outs to the hats and I think they turned out really cute!

DSCN4853

The  boys at the party loved them..in fact, they wore them to church the day after the party too! How funny!

Stay tuned for more Mario and Luigi party fun!

Vintage Baby Quilt from a Friend!

oh so sweet

I had to share what my beautiful friend Patty, from Sewing Seeds, did for my Sweet Pea.  First, let me say, that Patty is one of the sweetest, kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to get acquainted with…I can’t say meet, cause we’ve never gotten to meet each other.  She has a gentle, loving heart a
nd is uber talented with a sewing machine!

She made my little Sweet Pea, who is now FOUR months old, the most beautiful baby quilt from her stash of vintage sheets.  It is so colorful and lovely, sweet pea can’t take her eyes off the colors! (except long enough to let her Nana take some pics of her!)
I thought I’d share some of those pictures, so everyone could see what a wonderful treasure Patty sent to us.

Aren’t the colors just gorgeous!  This is Sweet Pea’s, “yes, I know I’m beautiful” look.  lol

beautiful

I think this is my favorite Sweet Pea pic yet…she just looks so innocent and sweet…..and happy!

what?

I call this her Gerber Baby shot….

DSCN4801

This is what she does when she’s SUPER excited about something…she arches her back, gets all stiff and makes “THAT” face. LOL  Can you tell she’s very excited about her new quilt?!

Sweet Pea's excited look

So, thank you Patty for your kindness and for taking time out of your busy schedule to brighten my day! (and Sweet Pea thanks you too!)

Hope you enjoyed seeing the lovely quilt….it’s so good to have such special bloggy friends as all of you…we’ve received multiple gifts for Sweet Pea and it just overwhelms me how kind all of you are!
LOVE YOU!

Card Making Fun! Treasures and Trinkets Linky Party!

Today is Treasures and Trinkets Thursday, so link up something you love, something you’ve made or anything that makes you smile.  If you know how, I’d appreciate a link back to my blog. (if you don’t know how, I won’t delete you…that would just be mean)  That’s it…easy peasy!

DSCN4325

I LOVE to make pretty cards and just wanted to share the latest ones I’ve made.   The little words and some of the embellishments were from a kit I had a while back, I wish I knew where you could just buy the sentiments like the “To Someone Special” etc. It would make card making so much easier!

Since I can’t mail each and everyone of you a card, I decided to give you ALL this next card…..”thinking of you”…that’s what I do all the time, I think of all of you.  You guys have become more than just blogging acquaintances, or readers…you’ve become my friends and I do think of you all the time!  So here ya go….

DSCN4326

I like this black and white one…just that little punch of color from the rose makes it look so special!   :)

DSCN4327

I sent this next one to Layla after receiving a lovely gift from her through the mail…thank you again Layla, I heart YOU! (and I LOVE my little teapot!)

DSCN4328

This last card is a very special one! I made it for my hubby for Valentines Day, which is also our anniversary….we’ve had 26 wonderful years together! (and counting!)

Mario and Luigi Lollipop Tutorial - Party Time!

blow pops

My little man is turning 10 on the 30th! (sniff, sniff…sob…sob!!!)
Oh where does the time go?!!
He asked for a big kids party….hmmm.  ME:  “What’s a big kid’s party”?
LITTLE MAN: “You know mom, kids my own age, not any little kids”.

Well OK then, we’ll go with that!  LOL

Anyway, we’re having him a Mario and Luigi themed party and I thought I’d show you guys some of the things I’m making for the big day! (If you’re one of my friends and your “big”  kid is invited to the party, don’t let them look at my blog, it’ll spoil the fun!~….cause I know there are SO many 10 year olds  out there that read my decorating blog!  Ha!!!

I saw a picture of these lollipops on the internet and I just had to make them for the party! I can’t find where I got the idea, so if it was yours, please let me know! Wish I could take credit for it, but it was someone out in cyber world..but I did make them!
UPDATE! Thank you CoolPartyBlog.com for letting me know these came from your blog so I could give you the credit!! Yay!  Here's the link to their original post.

TUTORIAL :
First I took some cream colored card stock and folded it over and cut out two ovals for each nose.   I folded it so there would be two exactly the same for the next step.

Next, I “glued” the two circles together using a 3D adhesive Zot. If you don’t care about the 3D effect, you can just cut out one circle and hot glue it on for the nose.

Next, I cut out ovals from red cardstock and folded them like the photo below…..

Then I cut out the little shapes below and wrote either a capital M or L, for Mario or Luigi.

DSCN4554

I also cut out cute little mustaches from black card stock as you can see on the lollipops.

I used this to adhere everything onto the lollipop, but you could use what ever adhesive you like. (hot glue would work great)

DSCN4553

After everything is cut out and glued on, this is what you get!  One Mario and one Luigi for each kid!

Aren’t they just the cutest things?!!

Goodwill Goodies…I’m on a roll! Treasures and Trinkets Thursday!

Sorry I’m a little late posting Treasures and Trinkets..we’re having some fun this week doing some day trips and I’ve been a little pre-occupied…but here it is now!
I was SO excited when we were in the Goodwill the other day and I came across this……….

DSCN4238

I love that it has a “beadboard” bottom on it! Right now  I am using it on top of my dryer to hold my little tin full of dryer sheets and an antique basket of wooden clothes pins.  I’m about to re-do my laundry room and I’m thinking of doing it in a pale aqua with beadboard, so this tray might end up as a nice aqua punch of color before long! (we’ll see…I’m still making up my mind) The tray was $3.75..great price for such a large piece!

I also found these frames for .75 cents each.  They say mom on them, but I’m going to fix that! (don’t worry mom, this is not your mother’s day gift!) lol  I am going to paint them and use them in my laundry room too!  $3.00 for four frames is not a bad deal at all~!

DSCN4431

I also found this unopened roll of lightweight fusible interfacing…got if for .75 cents too. :)  I’ll be using this for some fabric crafts at some point..just couldn’t pass it up for that price!

fusible iron-on adhesive

Well, that was my find for the week! Smile
I have so many projects in my head…I can’t wait for the weather to stay warm so I can break out the spray paint! I’m so excited to  show you what I’m going to be doing!

How to remove stains from napkins

On one of my recent trips to Goodwill I found these…..

DSCN4651

It’s a set of six dinner napkins.  The only problem is, they had some stains and were very yellow looking.  I decided, at a quarter each, I would take my chances and buy them anyway!

I figured bleach would probably bring out the stains, but I wanted to make sure they came out as white as possible, so I bought a box of this Rit Whitener and Brightener..you find it in aisle with dye…it was in my laundry aisle at Walmart.

DSCN4679

This stuff is specifically made for brightening dingy whites and colored fabrics.  It doesn’t have bleach, so it’s totally safe for your colored clothes.  I just wanted to whiten my napkins, so I used it in conjunction with some bleach.  I filled the washer with pretty hot water, added a half a pack of the Rit Whitener and a cup of bleach.   I let it the napkins soak in the washer for about 10 –15 minutes before I let them wash.
This is what I got…..
DSCN4653

Every stain came out and the napkins are now a BRIGHT white!
I ironed them out and stacked them up and they’re ready for company!  The stains in these looked as if they had been there for a while, so I’m sure it would work great on newly acquired stains. Smile
Here they are all ironed and ready for company! Don’t cha just love the little inset trim?! It’s what sold me to try to get the stains all out!

DSCN4652

I will definitely be stocking up on that Rit Whitener and Brightener…what a great find!
I probably won’t be able to comment back to your comments this week…we’re taking some day trips and I’ll be away from my computer for most of the week…just know I love you guys!!!
Smile

Have a great day!

You’ve Got Mail!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to tell you guys of a fun thing going on over at Deborah’s blog,  The Fairfield House!

fairfield

First off, if you haven’t been to her blog  before, you should go check it out…she has the most amazing blog. She’s funny, an amazing writer and has the most beautiful home…you’ll be glad you paid her a visit!

Anyway, she’s having a post card exchange!
I’ll be sending mine from Kentucky…the beautiful bluegrass state!

I participated last year and had a wonderful time!  You just do a post on your blog explaining what to do and then go over and link up to her post card linky party.  When you link up over there, you send her a post card from your state, telling her a little something about your state or area, then she will send you a post card in exchange. (she will email you her address)  You can also contact others in the linky party to receive and send postcards from them. (addresses will be exchanged via email).  I received a lot of post cards last year and still keep in contact with some of the ones that participated.
So go HERE to link up a post card party link and learn more about it all.  It really is fun! OH, she is also going to randomly pick a winner from all the participants, to win a box of goodies from her home state of New Jersey!

Thrifting Finds for Friday and Treasure and Trinket Linky party!

BLOG TITLE

Today is my Treasures and Trinkets Linky Party!!  Link up something you love!  It can be a treasure, a craft, a remodel…whatever your heart desires is alright by me…just share!  I would appreciate it if you would link back to this post if you know how..I won’t delete you if you don’t.

For my treasure this week, I wanted to share my recent finds from Goodwill.    My son and I went to Goodwill Friday after we finished school…we found a couple of fun things I wanted to share with you.
We were walking through Goodwill, just browsing around, when I saw a rubber tote sitting on the counter.   Our Goodwill usually puts their better things up front behind glass or on the counter, so I thought I’d peek inside!  My son’s eyes got big as saucers when he saw what was in that tub!  He found these………….

lego mini figs

OH, did I mention those little min-figures had friends….LOTS and LOTS of friends?!  See all those Legos on his floor? (please excuse his dirty room…we hadn’t finished making his bed yet)  Those Legos were ALL in that little rubber tub for $6.75!  If you have ever bought Legos, you KNOW what an amazing deal that is!  My little guy used his own allowance to buy the tub…he is still thrilled silly with our find!

legos

I made a little discovery of my own while we were there!  I found this mercury glass candle holder for $1.75!  Yay, I just LOVE mercury glass!  I have several of them and put them in the window sill above our garden tub in the master bath..they’re nice for a bubble bath with candles all aglow!

DSCN4654

This one still had the HomeGoods sticker on the bottom.  See……….
DSCN4656

I also found this whole stack of cards for $.75….love things that are under a buck!  woo hoo!  Aren’t they the cutest little mod cards?!

super mod greeting cards

Well, that was our haul from Friday….not too bad for less than $10.00!
Did anyone find any goodies thrifting this week?
Don’t forget to link up to the party….Link up what you love!
Have a great week!
