How to keep sheets on those HUGE mattresses!

How many of you out there have matresses like this....

you know.... thicker than molasses on a winter day!
:)

Don't you HATE it when you wake up in the middle of the night
and the corner of the sheet has slipped off the corners and you're lying on a bare mattress, because your sheets don't fit just right.

Well I have a solution for this nagging problem.

You'll need a piece of elastic to go from one side of the corner of the fitted sheet to the other,
like this.......

You can either sew it in place or put in in place with saftey pins, like this.
Yep, I took the easy way out and used the safety pins.
(no one's gonna see it!)
:-)
Make sure the you pull the elastic when you pin it so it'll be tight when you do the next step.

After you get it all pinned on, then you slip it under the corner of the mattress like this...

You may need to adjust the elastic if you don't
have it over far enough, but
it works like a charm once you get it just right!

It holds the sheet on tight and you won't wake up with lines on your
face from sleeping on your bare mattress.
(but I can't guarantee you won't have blankie marks)
:)

See how tight it holds the sheet on!
I have done this to all my sheets and they
never come off.

Hope you can use this tip!

Have a blessed day!

Lampshade re-do! & Treasures & Trinkets Thursday!

LINK UP! :)
1.Link something you love
2. Link back to my page
3, Grab my button
that's it!
I had these lovely buffet lamps, but didn't have any shades for them.
I found some shades, but they were
1. too plain and
2. a little too short for the lamps.

I knew I would need something to extend the shades down a bit AND make them more romantic.
I thought of a crystal beaded trim, feather trim, even just a plain gimp type trim,
but those just didn't seem foo fooey enough for my taste and some just wouldn't extend the lampshades down far enough either.

 :-)

I found these BEAUTIFUL roses at a local store and immediately knew what I wanted to do to my lamps.
I felt like Morticia Adams pulling the rose heads off all the stems!
Of course, unlike Morticia, I wanted the flowers not the stems. :)

The process was SUPER easy.....pull off flower heads, hot glue on the bottom edge of the lamp shade. Presto, change-o...........new romantic lampshades!
I did help the flowers "bloom" out a little more so they would be fluffier on my lampshades. :)

I think it made a HUGE difference. The roses extended the lampshades down enough and definitely made the plain jane shades more romantic. I am MORE than pleased with the outcome! Don't cha' love it when a plan comes together!

 :)

Have a blessed day!

Built-in Beautification!

Hey my bloggin' buddies!
I am so excited to show you the progress
I've made on Carson's built-ins!!

I also have a picture of his room before I started this whole
beautification process! :)

Ready to see his little plain jane room?
Here ya go....

Blah!
Pretty plain.
We really haven't done much to his room since we moved in, close to 4 years ago.
I know, I know....a room just sitting there waiting for help for that long!
But you have to remember that we bought this house after it was repossessed by
the bank and it was a HOT MESS!
We've been working our tushy's off on every room in the house..with even more to go!

Ok, I have the built-ins all screwed into place now..Yay!!
Here is the one on the left of his bed...

and here is the one on the right.....

...and here they are together! :)
You can tell this was before I painted the board and batten.

(Just so ya know, there's so much more I'm doing to this area..
just can't show you everything at once now can I!)

I got the built-ins all up and decided they were too white and needed something...
but what you say?

They needed some color, so I went out and picked out
these three wallpapers to choose from....
(after staring at about 1,000 for what seemed like hours!!)

Of course, you know which one won out don't you??

Yep, the ticking....
ticking ALWAYS wins out!
(I don't know why I even bothered looking at the rest! lol)

Here's a couple of shots of the right hand side
built-in without the paper...

another one...

and here it is with the paper!
Much better!
I still had painting to do in that picture,
but I can tell you the painting is
ALL DONE now and I will
be showing you much more soon!

It's gonna be so stinkin' cute!~
I can't wait to show you more!!
SO STAY TUNED!

If you have any questions so far,
just ask, or shoot me an email!

Tea Time Treasures & Trinkets...Look what I found!

Today is Treasure & Trinket Thursday, so link up!
1. Link up something you love!
2. Link back to me please. :)
3. grab my button (if you know how)
That's all..simple rules for a simple gal!

Okay, I have to tell you I am one blessed chic.....look what I found at a YARD SALE!

This is a Johann Haviland Platter....

but there's more!!!..........

See what came with my lovely new platter!
:)

Yep, the teapot, sugar, creamer and salt pepper shakers.

Aren't the flowers so sweet~!

The lady said she paid $150.00 for the set, but you
all know I didn't pay that for it... hee hee hee, cause I'm cheap!

I did pay a little more than I normally would have at a yard sale,
but I don't think $35.00 is too much for this set.
It is such wonderful quality and so large....
those are 10" dinner plates behind the set...look how large
that teapot is!
No skimpy set here!!

Hope you enjoyed seeing my latest find/treasure!
What have you found lately??

Don't forget to link up!

Tick Tock, it's a clock.....but what did I turn it into?

 You guys remember this?

For those of you that might have missed it,
I got this ugly little clock for a buck at a yard sale a few weeks ago.
I'm not sure if it even worked because I didn't care...
I did this to it....

Yep, I took it apart to start the process~!

The first thing I did was to make the little flowers to put on it,
I can't tell you how I made mine (family secret), but
all you need is some kind of onlay or little carving to put on top.

Here's a couple of close ups of the floral work...

After that, I gave it a nice primer

Then, I coated it with a coat of creamy white...

I forgot to mention that the reason I bought this to begin with,
was the wonderful bubble glass it had on the front!

I purchased this very intricate, hand cut, silhouette from Ebay for $6.99, it's of a carriage and horse.
I can actually handcut these myself, but I was being lazy and thought this one was worth the 7 bucks!
I put in under the glass.
:-)

All done!!

What do you think?

Here it is on my mantel.

Doesn't quite look like that dollar clock now does it?
:-)

Have a blessed day!
