You’ll Never Guess What I Got!

Okay…you all remember last month when I posted about my birthday and had a wish list?  Well lo and behold I got an item from that list and just let me say it wasn’t the cake from a bakery in Las Vegas! lol
Here’s what I got!
canon rebel

Yep….I got the Canon Rebel I wanted!  It was a God thing really! My hubby was so supposed to get a bonus, but we pretty much knew where most of it was going…however, he got more than he was told….and guess what?  It was the amount my camera cost, so he took me to the store and said, “here, I want you to have this”.    I’m married to the bestest, most wonderful man in the world! (and yes, I know bestest isn’t a word, but that’s what he is!)

I SO don’t know what I’m doing with this camera…. let’s just say I’ve been reading this a lot!….

I have found some wonderful tutorials on you tube and also some blogs with some great tips!  Pioneer Woman helped me a lot with understanding apertures, exposure and all those other foreign words!  If you’re interested here is a link to her post. (when you click it, it’ll go to the 3rd post, but there are links in the first paragraph to take you to the 1st and 2nd one)
I wanted to share some photos I’ve been taking with my new toy! I cannot believe the clarity of pictures it takes….it’s amazing!  Please remember, this camera  is very new to me so my shots aren’t exactly professional (cause I’m not either!), but the crispness of the photos just amaze me!
These are blazing star flowers that are in my front yard…I really enjoyed getting up close on these…they’re so pretty!

I caught the bumblebee as he was taking off…see his little wings are all stretched back. hee hee hee

I was taking a picture of this baby bird that had just left the nest and the momma was squakin’ her head off at me! lol
baby bird....momma was squakin'!
This is just a shell ball that I have in a pot of rosemary, I was just amazed at the detail in the shells! (can you tell I’m lovin’ my camera?!)

I was trying to see how close up I could get on some stuff, so this is a pic of the back of my wicker chair…I like how textural it is!
upclose shot of my wicker chair...you can even see the dust!
A pic I took of the fireworks when our county had their annual 4th of July celebration.
fun at the 4th
These are pics I took of Sweet Pea (my g-baby, for those that are new around here) :0)    These aren’t that great, but I had to include them..I mean, she’s a doll baby!
My lovely sweet pea
I love her little teeth! :)

These last few shots are some I took when I ventured out into manual mode on my camera.  Let me just say I was scared to death I was going to break something, but after watching a few tutorials, I did it!

Now you all know what I drive! lol …………….

Then I discovered another mode on my camera and found out it takes b&w pics, sepia tone, etc.  LOVE LOVE LOVE!

The fire hydrant that sits in front of my house….ugh I hate this thing, but it kinda looks neat in this picture. : 0)

And this is my favorite.  I took this picture after a rain shower…you can see the one droplet inside the rose is about to fall.  I LOVE my new camera for making me passionate about taking pictures again!
raindrops...love it!
Hope I didn’t bore you to pieces with my photography, but I couldn’t help myself!

What kind of camera do you have, and do you love it?  Also, do you have any great tips for a VERY novice photographer?
Have a great day!
Hugs
Missy

Good Monday morning Missy! Aren't you the lucky one! I am happy you got your birthday wish! I am with you....camera's are hard to figure out but how wonderful for us bloggers that digital cameras are available to us! I have a Canon Powershot A610. It is my first digital and it was expensive when I bought it 4 years ago. I think it takes very good pictures but then I don't know all that it does either. I did drop it this winter on a sidewalk and it hit right on the zoom side and now it acts funny. UGH! I also just got got a pocket digital another Canon. It's nice to keep in my purse for when a "Kodak" moment happens! My bithday is in less than 2 weeks and I already got my present too! A new Honda Odyssey mini van! Well, it's not new...we traded a 2008 Civic for a 2004 Odyssey with more miles but we are very happy!
I already had my morning walk and it is very muggy....stay cool this week!~Hugs, Patti

Missy,

Enjoy your birthday present! Hoping you capture lots of moments that you will treasure. You are doing a wonderful job getting acquainted with it. Remember practice makes perfect, use natural light, do not use automatic.

Your Friend,
Deborah

Yay Missy! Your photos look wonderful! I have the same camera! It really DOES make taking photos fun! My favorite setting is the CA- creative automatic- because you can adjust so many things on the one screen! I know you'll enjoy it so much!

Missy,
You are a GRANDMA? Wow, you know I think I knew that but it is just now registering!! You look so young... like my age or even younger.

How exciting about the camera!! And I know you hate the fire hydrant in your front yard but WOW!!! The picture you took of it is incredible... it looks like it ought to be in a table top book, magazine or a collage with that incredible patina!! HOW DID YOU GET THE NIGHT PHOTO!?! We have been trying with no success... please enlighten me. That way I can tell my husband and son.

Hope you have a great week!

Hey Missy,

It's me, Patty. I'm so happy for you. You are going to be taking soooooooooooooo many pictures. Download Picasa, it's free and it has just enough fun improvements and tweeking for your pictures without being overwhelming. I have a Nikon D90 that I got this year for my 50th birthday. I love it! It's one of the reasons I started this new blog. I love taking pictures so much now and it's so fun to share them. Enjoy it...dear hubby knows a good thing when he sees it and has no problem showing you..hee, hee! Take care sweet friend, Patty (sewingseeds) ;)

Ok, the baby is so cute! :-)

Congrats on the camera! FYI - at Barnes & Noble they have camera books for that are model specific so if you feel like you need more/different from your manual, that could be helpful!

oh, how funny. I ALMOST bought the same camera last week. My niece (mikeandstaci.blogspot.com) takes wonderful pictures with her Cannon camera, and I wanted to buy the Rebel. They had the kit at Sam's for $649. I just couldn't part with that much money, even though I was truly tempted. Instead I got the Cannon Powershot SX30. Go to my blog and look at my posts, "Nature walk in my own front yard" and "new camera.....please be patient with me!" It's like we are living in a parallel universe or something! I even took a picture of a yellow flower on my daughter's bush that looks like yours. lol small world. I know you are going to love your camera for years and years to come. My niece takes gorgeous pictures with hers!!! Happy photo-ing (I'm sure that isn't a word, but we'll make it one!!!)

Some beautiful photos! I still miss using my rather expensive film camera with all the extra filters, lens, flash attachments...ahhhhh. But the one thing I do like about my little digital point and shoot is that I can see it and delete it right away if it's junk :-) I doubt that I'll ever win a photo contest with any of my digitals from this camera like I did with my film camera. Still, my digital has given me some very nice photos because it does have many settings which I've explored and used. Congrats on your great gift from your great hubby!

Yay on your new camera!!! I've got a Canon SX20IS and I love it. My daughter has one and she sold me on the idea. I really like being able to focus in on shots from far, far away and they look a whole lot closer..that was one of the main reasons why I got this camera. I finally figured out how to take the bokeh shots using the AV setting but haven't been brave enough to try the manual setting yet.
Your pictures look great!!! And that grandbaby is SO adorable. I love those fat cheeks :D

Wow, what a great B'day you had! And what a wonderful DH, too. I am on your blog after seeing your post on "Beneath My Heart". Your pictures are lovely. Just yesterday, I read where someone was suggesting this site to new camera owners. That does not include me, but thought I might pass it along to you. The site is:

Woohoo. It looks like you already got a pretty good handle on using that new camera. When you get it ALL figured out, can you come give me a personal tutor session because I've had mine since Christmas and I still haven't taken it off Auto. LOL
