Guess who I got to meet?

On Friday, I got to meet one of my blogging buddies!

I never really thought I'd get to meet any of you wonderful people out there in bloggyland, but I did!

I was so excited to meet Gail, from My Repurposed Life.
Gail is such a wonderful lady and is SO talented.
She takes things that a lot of people would take to the trash, and turns them into amazing treasures!

Anyway, the reason I got to meet her is that my mom had these two old windows and she wanted small cabinets built around them.
(Gail is uber talented in that department!)

Soo...my dad, brother and son all took a trip out to her house last weekend to take her all the stuff to build with, and when she was finished, I got to go back with my brother to pick up the cabinets.
I'm going to give you the link to today's post that Gail did on the whole process...just wait till you see how cute the cabinets turned out!! Go HERE, to see them and what she made them from. :)
While you're over there, you have to look at the toddler bed she made that won the big prize at the DIY Club! It's Ahhhmazing!

We did take a picture together, but we had both been working in the yard all day, so neither of us were looking our best, so you guys don't get to peek at that! lol

Hope you guys have a great day, and thanks Gail for being such a wonderful friend!

HUGS!

Treasures and Trinkets Thursday! - Our Fall Apple Pie from our Orchard Apples

Time for Treasures and Trinkets Thursday...
Link up anything that makes you happy, a craft you've been working on...whatever!
I am SO not picky!

I promised I would show you what we did with these apples
from the orchard.....

I made an apple pie!
Actually, the guys around here said it was the best one
I have ever made!
:0)
(maybe they just said that to butter me up to bake some more)
LOL

Anyway, here's what I did...

First I peeled and sliced those beauties up!
(you can put them in a bowl of water with a little lemon juice
if you're afraid they'll turn brown....I was working so fast, it wasn't a factor)

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

I put my bottom pie crust in my 9" pie pan....
and yes, I did cheat, I used the Pillsbury Pie Crust.
I'm a busy mom here....I have to cut myself some slack on occasion.
(don't hate me, ok?)
:)
(please ignore the brown spots on my crust...I dropped some cinnamon!)

For the filling I mixed up.....

6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (6 medium...but I used three HONKIN' sized apples~ lol)
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice

~ Can't ya just taste that sugar and cinnamon? ~

After it's all mixed up
just pile it in your pie crust.

Put the top crust on, fold the top crust edge under the bottom one
and crimp....just like grandma used to do.

:)

Here's where I did something a little different.
Usually you just poke 4 holes in the top....
well, I couldn't just poke a hole in my bee-u-tee-ful pie,
so I did this instead.....

Instant fall!

See how the edges of the cookie cutter, just gently cut
the pie crust.  It's all the way through in some spots
to allow the steam to come out, but not all over.
Yeah, yeah,  I poked the four holes in it too, but
you have to admit they are prettier with the leaf pattern around it!
;)

I ALWAYS cover the edges of my pie with foil,
so they don't over brown while baking.
I remove them for about the last 10-15 minutes of baking time.
Oh and you bake it for about 45 minutes total.

Here she is warm and bubbly out of the oven.

See how the leaf opened up during baking...

This pie lasted only one day...
and it was yummy with ice cream!

:-)

This has put in the mood to bake again...
gonna go see what I can get myself into!

Two bolts...and not the lightning kind! :) Goodwill LOVE!

Just had to show you guys what I lucked into Friday!

I took my little guy to the library and on the way home
something just told me to go to Goodwill.
(it's the same little voice that tells me to eat chocolate too!)

:0)

Do you have that voice too?
(you do if you're female!)

ANYWAY!

I listened to the little voice and went into Goodwill,
I wanted you to see what I found.
I was just walking around, finding nothing, when my eye
happened to scan a big open cart in the back of the store and
I saw these.....

Two very good sized rolls/bolts of fabric!

The first is a very pretty green chenille...kind of a kiwi-ish/olive green.
Very pretty with chocolate brown....my wheels are turning!

The next roll was this lovely pink and cream toile.
I LURVE toile...in a big fat puffy heart, kind of way!

This one has such sweet scenes on it too..
they're all of little children playing!

I don't know what I'll be doing with these fabrics yet, but
I just can't pass up big rolls of lovely fabric!

Guess how much they cost?

Oh, this was so exciting to me!!
I got them for $6.00 a ROLL...the WHOLE roll!
I have paid three times that for one yard of really good
upholstery fabric before.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw the fabric and
did a somersault when I saw the price!

Oh joy!

Just had to share with all my best buddies!
You know, I never knew I could care so much about
people I will probably never get to meet.

You guys are the best!

Orchard Heaven! :) Treasures and Trinket Thursday!

Hello friends.

:)

I thought you guys might like to see our day at the orchard!
I took my little man out one day last week when it was still warm.
(someone turned off the thermostat in KY...it's cold here now!)

Here is our day in pictures!

Carson posing for pictures for his momma...
I had to bribe him and say, "if you wanna go play, you have to let me get some pics first".
Do you guys have to bribe your kids for pictures?!
LOL

I'd like to think he was winking at me in this picture, but
I think the sun was in his eyes.
(but a momma can hope, right!)

Isn't he the cutest little thing?!
(of course I have to think that, I'm his momma!)

This is the Orchard that's about 3 miles from our house...
It's called Evans Orchard and it has so much to offer!
They having apple and corn festivals, you can pick your own of anything........

even pumpkins!

They also have a play area and petting zoo too!

Here's Carson on the tires.
(I have fun on this one...they're bouncy and fun to jump on!)

What a face!
I didn't have to bribe him for this picture.
:0)

This is where he spent most of his time...
in the straw castle.

Hmmm...how does this thing work?

OH, this is fun!........

BUT slippery!
OOPS!

Back to the tires!

Here's a small sampling of the acres of apple trees!

I think he's having fun!

Everyone together now..
"ahhhh, a baby goat".

And last but not least...
before we left, we had a hot, deep fried apple pie!
Yes, they even have yummy food at Evans!

I'm leaving you with this picture.

We bought these apples before we left...
I'll be showing you what I made from them on my next post!
:)
OH, these apples are HUGE...the two up front are much bigger than my hand!

Hope you guys have a great week!

How Exciting!

Just a quick blip to tell you guys I won the cupcake wars challenge at our church last night!
 Woo Hoo!
:)

They judged on looks and taste...still
can't believe I won!

I made yellow cupcakes with almond flavored buttercream frosting.  I decorated the tops with fall yellow roses and green leaves.  I would show you a picture, but they were all eaten before I could snap a shot! :0) I guess that means they were yummy! lol

I just had to share! :)

You can always go look at my faux cupcakes to imagine what my real ones looked like! lol

Have a great day!

My first vinyl project...and I'm already addicted!

I did this same post today as a guest blogger for Robyn at Whimages, so I
figured I might as well share it over here too!

:)
I got a cricut not long ago, but
I also just recently bought some software to go with it
so I don't have to buy cartridges anymore!
(unless I just find one that's to die for....which could be next Thursday knowing me!)

:0)

The software is called Sure Cuts a Lot 2,
if any of you are interested
in knowing what it is.  You can take images from the internet
or scan them into your computer and load them on this software.
You just buy a usb cable to hook up to your cricut and tell it
to cut from your computer......
OH the ENDLESS possibilities!!

Anywho~!... I decided to go beyond paper cutting and
went straight into the world of vinyl!
(and can I tell you I am totally addicted!)

This is my first project.....

I took my boring little cream colored lamp shade and
turned it into this.....

Now it's my, oooh la la, monogrammed lampshade!

I just love it!

See how the light just glows from behind the lettering?!

Oh happy day!

Seeing as this was my first attempt at
vinyl, I wasn't too sure
about it sticking onto a fabric
lamp shade, but it's held on just fine!

I am addicted now....is there a vinyl anonymous out there?
Since my lampshades, I now have monograms in vinyl on
my phone and laptop and have several more things
waiting to be cut!
:0)

Addicted I tell ya!
Thanks for checking out my newest project!

Have you guys been doing anything new?

The last of my summer garden and Treasures and Trinkets Thursday!

It's supposed to get down to 32 degrees tonight, so I went outside
and gleaned all the tomatoes I could get from my plants.

See!.....

Do you know tomatoes will continue to ripen inside the house?
Just put them in a windowsill and wait, OR

Wrap the bigger ones individually in newspaper
and store them in a dry, cool place and they will ripen slower...
you can have garden tomatoes for Thanksgiving!

Anyone have any good recipes that call for tomatoes?!!!
:0)

Link up!
Could be something you love, a recipe (uh hum...maybe a tomato one!) or anything at all...just link!

Hugs
Missy
