Our House...........what does it need??? I want your opinion!

It seems we're going to have winter FOREVER! It has been a very cold and snowy winter so far this year...........and they're calling for more snow on Friday of this week. :-o I took my little boy outside to play in the winter wonderland yesterday and snapped some photos. I took one of the front of our house and it got me to thinking. Our front door is always exposed to the elements, sooooooooooo...... what do you guys think the front of our house would look like with a small covered porch. Well not porch really, but an "awning like" structure just over the door.......you know a shingled overhang with corbels instead of posts...............a PORTICO, that's what it's called! lol Wow, it took me a minute to get to the name huh! :-)

Like this one!!! This photo was borrowed from http://www.nuconceptswindows.com/ They have some great before and after shots of their work.........wow!

Okay, here is my house.........imagine something like that portico, only smaller, above my front door. Maybe with a copper or metal roof.......maybe shingles, I already have those. lol What da' ya think? :) (that's my little boy by the mailbox)

I would LOVE to be able to do something like that....of course I'd have to find the funds to do it with or find a friend that can build that owes me a favor. (wish I knew of someone! lol) I just think it would be a really cool solution to the constant beating my front door takes from the weather. What do you guys think? I may not have funding, but I love to dream for the future! :-)

The blog looks great! Glad you dived in to give it a try. Now I just have to get back to blogging at my abandoned home. I actually started a blog here at blogspot awhile back. I'm trying to decide if I want to switch it over completely.

Btw - I think the 'portico' would look great.

I think I might get a website instead of this blogspot........doesn't cost much and has so much more room for storing and growing. :) I'm having fun blogging, if nothing else! lol
I drew a portico on this pic of my house in paint, it does look good.........I just don't know how to build it! lol Need a builder person.

Thanks Cindy! :) My house is prettier when it has flowers blooming instead of covered up in snow. LOL I was just so thrilled when I found this background, I LOVE it! Maybe one day I'll get that portico too. :) Thanks for visiting!

Hi Cindy
I LOVE that look and I think your home would look fabulous with one of those over the door. Its such a smart look..smart and clean and great!
Something to really consider...
hope you are having a great day and that your winter gets a little easier.
We have been soooo lucky here around our place all winter. We haven't had the snow and what we got months ago has just stayed because the weather is cold..but its sunny and nice.
have a lovely day and come by and visit some time.

just found your blog...I love your backsplash.....was it expensive?

I think it looks so Vintage. I have tile and I hate it.....also were you able to place it right over your tile?

Lovely blog :)

Judi, My name is Melissa, I was just talking to someone named Cindy that commented on my blog. LOL Glad you came by to visit though and the sun is FINALLY shining today! (just a little, but still!) :)

Sophee, the backsplash cost me $120.00 altogether! I think it's about $18.00 a section...and if I remember each section is either 18 or 24" inches. I put it directly over the tiles! woohoo! I used kitchen scissors to cut it and put it in place. You can either use their adhesive or a strong double stick tape...I used some of both, but honestly, I think you could probably just use the tape if you get the strong stuff. :) Hope that was helpful...feel free to ask me anymore questions. :)

Hi there!
I say, do it. I think a portico would be perfect, it would add a little more character to the front of the house, and keep you dry, too! Just don't go too small, cause then it's not really worth the trouble. The trick is to find the perfect proportion, and to follow the existing roof lines. I love the idea of a copper roof, oooh how pretty would that be?
Sorry you are having a hard time with the weather. It will be spring soon!
Stop by for a visit sometime,
XO

Hi Melissa,
Sometimes fate takes us by the hand...it happened to me today and I found your blog! It's great! I'm a fellow Kentucky girl. LOVE this pink rose background (I can't get enough of pink rose anything - especially vintage china!) I'm behind on my blogging - my daughter and I just opened a booth last month at a Peddler's Mall here in Louisville and it's taken a LOT of our time, but it is sooo fun! I love these malls! I've found so many great vintage treasures.
I'll be back to visit soon - you seem to be a kindred spirit!

First time to visit you and I'll be back.
Got an idea for the front of your house. The little roof might interfear with the edge of the garage and look odd. It looks like you have a porch across the front of the house (table & chairs), why not extend the roof across the front to the very edge of the house and cover the whole porch. From the garage to the left edge of the house looking at the picture. It would finish the whole front off and you might be able to do it with just 3 posts and some trusses. It looks like your door section is set forward so you would have to deal with the jog back in that corner but it would look cute. Even a colored tin roof to set it off. Just food for thought and another option. Good luck.

Ahrisha, (cute name) Thanks for stopping by my blog! I like your idea, but my patio doesn't go all the way over..........that's actually a bench and flower pots, not table and chairs. :) I too have been pondering the roof line on the garage....I even thought about putting an awning over the door (you know the cute little dome ones) because of that roof line. Still pondering....... lol
